Privacy Policy
Effective: September 2026. Dezoomify is a free, open-source tool for downloading high-resolution zoomable images. There are no accounts, no advertising, no analytics, and no tracking.
What runs where
- Website. Your browser tries to download source pages, image information, and image pieces directly. When it cannot retrieve a public file, our server may retrieve it for you. These requests do not send your browser cookies or sign-in details to our server.
- Browser extension. Runs only when you explicitly invoke it on a tab, with per-site permissions you grant. See the section below for exactly how it handles cookies.
- Desktop app and CLI. Download directly from source sites using your internet connection and process images on your computer. The desktop app stores your settings on this device, including any request headers you enter. It cannot use your browser login.
The browser extension and cookies
The extension only acts when you explicitly invoke it on a tab, and only for sites whose host permissions you have granted. It performs no background scanning and collects nothing while idle.
- Your session, not ours. When downloading image data, the extension fetches from the site you are viewing using your browser's existing session under the host permissions you granted. Your browser attaches that site's own cookies to those requests, exactly as it would when you open the files yourself; the extension does not read or copy those cookie values.
- Your login stays with the source site. The extension has no Dezoomify-side endpoint: it never sends cookies or image data to our servers, to the metadata proxy, or to any third party.
What we store
Downloads run in your browser or on your computer. When the website uses our server to retrieve a public file, it sends that file’s address to the server. Server access logs contain request IDs and general error codes, not source addresses. Diagnostic reports stay on your device until you choose to share them. They can contain exact page and image addresses, settings, and error details. Review them for sensitive information before sharing.
Recent pictures keeps download history on this device, including failed and cancelled attempts. Clear history removes these entries without deleting saved images. The desktop app can keep downloaded image pieces to reuse after an interruption. These cached pieces contain image data, not your browser’s sign-in information.
What we share
We do not sell your data. Downloads contact source sites and may use our server as described above. Diagnostic reports are shared only when you choose to share them.
